Congratulations to Judith Worrall and Louise Murray and all the women that took part in cycling from Milan to Venice recently, all in aid of Women v Cancer. Here are some reflections from Jude on the experience – written shortly after so emotions still very high….
‘ Wow! What an amazing trip! Just completed Milan to Venice for Women v Cancer. Was I nervous? Errrrr YES! Lack of ‘mojo’ and a recent holiday resulted in lack of training….. I was also presented with a ‘shopping bike’ on arrival to complete the 210 miles in 3 days challenge….
Day 1 – Milan – Brescia
My birthday! Sunshine all day – happy lass : ) However I could have thrown the bike in the canals by the afternoon. 71 miles completed.
Day 2 – Brascia – Verona
Sun gone, but me and my ‘tractor’ did 60 miles….with a few cheeky hills. The sight of Lake Garda was stunning. It was a slow finish to Verona……..
Day 3 – Verona – Mestre
What a day! 86 miles all in the rain. Me and my tractor motored on…. We sang, laughed and cried – we got lost in Venice, there were punctures (not mine) and nasty falls (not me). What do I remember most about this day? Being caught having a wee by a Chinese family who thought it was hilarious to see three white bottoms (one of them mine!)
After everything I only went and did it! Legs very heavy but so chuffed with myself. What will I take away from the experience? To NEVER doubt myself. We are all stronger than we think or give ourselves credit for. So much support amongst the group and love for each other – the lovely ladies I met got me through it. You don’t have to have the best bike or the best kit just a bot of self belief and lots of friendly encouragement.
The group raised £135,000 for Women V Cancer
I am grateful to have shared this experience with Louise Murray. x
Well done from all at YLCC.
The Yorkshire Lass Sportive is also raising money and awareness for Women V Cancer, get entered now if you haven’t already!
