The Yorkshire Lasses have been busy so far this month, so I’d make yourself a brew and grab a slice of cake to read this one…..!
One club ride took a group of the Lasses to Masham. Once they had all managed to find each other at the race course (slightly regretting that being the meeting point on race day!) they headed off on their ride. Jude on a training mission for her charity bike ride to Tanzania, met them en route. One little surprise they were not expecting, was the welcome at their coffee stop. This included dancing boys and girls, a marching band and LOTS of sheep…….in true Yorkshire Lass style they embraced the moment!!
As the light starts to fade, we are all determined to keep our winter fitness levels up so a few of us decided to go off road and head to Sutton Bank mountain biking. You know the place with amazing views…….not when we went was a bit foggy! Some of us had been mountain biking before others were new to it. Charlotte a first time rider, left the ride and managed to get herself a MTB from a friend within a few days of playing in the mud!!
We had a right laugh riding through the woods, got a bit over excited by the amazing toadstools, and we have a few more rides being planned over the winter. Typically the sun came out as we left!
Sportives? Yes we have done a few this month…….the YLCC blue jerseys have been out in force, and we have been getting lots of compliments on our kit! We have had groups of ladies take part in; Cupcake ride – Breeze Lancs – Wiggle Ay up in Thirsk and this weekend the Spadgers ride. You will see from the pictures that Suzanne and Kate were doing their best to do an impression of the 3 wise monkeys….just needed the third one!
The Spadgers ride reported a 30% increase on women participants compared to last year, which is fantastic and YLCC got a mention at the start too. It seems we are getting a lot of attention at the moment, Jude and Catherine were also interviewed at the Wiggle sportive and will be appearing on YouTube soon!
On top of all this activity, a group rode out to Beningbrough Hall – Mandy and a couple of others challenged themselves with a 100 mile ride, ok it was 102 in the end – others climbed the Cow and Calf – Sandie did a club ride which included some new potential members even the tree hugging didn’t put them off joining!! – and a few lasses baked themselves cakes and had a coffee morning for Macmillan (with a ride too of course!)
We have definitely been busy and enjoying our 2 wheels recently.
Phew…..well your brew has probably finished now…or gone cold…(sorry!) As I type this we currently have 97 members in the club which is amazing……who knows by the time I put a full stop at the end of this sentence, we may have our hundredth member…….
…….Watch this space to find out who it will be!
