YLCC was set up in March 2015 by Kate Horsfall and Judith Worrall, two good friends who wanted to set up a club just for women, run by women to encourage ladies to get out on their bikes and have fun, get fit, meet new friends and all importantly eat cake!!!
So with the with the help of Tony Booth from Wetherby based all Terrain Cycles the Yorkshire Lass cycle club was born and in just a few short months we had over 60 ladies joining up! We are now a club of over 100 ladies and are going from strength to strength with two very successful sportive’s under own belts and looking forward to our 3rd one.
Yorkshire lasses are not to fazed by anything, within 11 months of setting up the club we came up with the idea for the Sportive. 2018 will see the club go into its 3rd Year and will be the 3rd Sportive.
Kate is from Wetherby and having started out mountain biking with her family she felt inspired by good friend Jude who was cycling all over the world raising money for Women v cancer charities and achieving some incredible things on her bike so she took the plunge getting her first road bike in September 2014 and caught the bug very quickly!!!!
She completed her first 100K for Ride the night in London in May 2015 and then went on to complete her first 103 miles in the Tour de Mon, Anglesey that same year, something she never would have dreamed possible when she started! Since then the two friends have cycled many miles together completing quite a few 100 mile rides, including the famous Yorkshire lass sportive ride.
Her partner in crime Jude from Thirsk has been riding many years now. Jude began riding a bike to get fit after losing weight and soon caught the cycling bug too. She has gone on to cycle all over the world raising money for Women V Cancer in India, Cuba, Tanzania, Vietnam & Cambodia and Brazil. Jude and Kate have now ridden Ride the Night four times, once was on a Tandem.
2017 saw the Yorkshire Lasses being Yarn bombed by the famous Thirsk Yarn bombers, we were adorned by very colourful headwear whilst raising funds for Women v cancer charities.
September 2017 Jude and Kate set off to cycle in Brazil with another club member Ali Tiffin riding for Women v cancer challenges.
Together they laughed and cried their way around Brazil climbing many mountains with sweat blood and tears they mastered the ride. This year we will be tackling the mountains of Majorca and the iconic London 2 Paris ride. ( might even get time to shop too)
You will see a sea of the Famous Yorkshire lass colours at many a sportive, we are usually the ones that are having a right good natter.
Behind every successful club are its members and the club could not run as efficiently as it does without ladies leading rides and doing a lot of the behind the scenes work, like planning rides and booking cafe spots
The secret to the clubs success is that we are just all normal ladies (ok well some of us are a bit bonkers!) with busy lives, family and work commitments. We are not super fit athletes we are just a group of ladies who like to meet up and ride our bikes, stop for a cuppa and some cake a good chat and a giggle then we cycle back! We have all different abilities in the club and we try and mix our rides so we offer something for everyone.
